Giving Tony Duquette vibes!
She is adorned with extraordinary details throughout…
Hand painted depictions of a large peacock trailing with cherry blossoms.
The natural bamboo frame features an Asian block art butterfly border design, creating a harmonious blend of Asian artistic elements.
Handcrafted of traditional rice paper, with bamboo ribbings and frame.
Original wooden hub and handle.
When opened, she is a gorgeous size of 34” in diameter.
At TruffleandFig, we were lucky to acquire two of these from an estate.
Uses for these spectacular rice paper parasols are endless…
We love them atop our antique highboy, as shown, or atop an
armoire.
Hang from a tall lofted ceiling, as a unique art install, add illusion lights.
They are just as lovely closed shut, near the umbrella stand, or atop a handsome surface.
A brief history of the Wagasa or Japanese umbrella …
Introduced from China, approximately around the 6th Century, along with buddhist culture, and were used in ceremonial practices. Other uses included tea ceremonies, or for brides in traditional Japanese weddings.
Circa 1930’s-40’s, both umbrellas are in excellent condition, minimal age on paper, opens and closes beautifully.
