Circa 1940’s, this glamorous Mouton cape is a striking showstopper!
History of Mouton…
Mouton is treated sheepskin or lambskin with straightened, dense, and lustrous fur, named from the French word for “mutton”.
Mouton became a key part of women's wardrobes in the late 1940s, providing an accessible way to achieve a glamorous look.
High-quality mouton has a thick, dense, and plush feel, with a natural shimmer and luster that changes in different lights. Unlike curly furs like Persian lamb, mouton's fibers are straightened and sheared to an even depth, such as ½ inch.
The chemical treatment and thermal setting of the pelts also give mouton a moisture-repellent finish.
This magnificent cape is in beautiful condition for her age. The previous owner took great care in persevering her!
The patchwork design is of a classy chevron design, with 4 sets of chocolate leather and brass toggle closures.
Opening slots for hands and wrists, a chic Nehru collar, lined interior, with the perfect glamorous swing!

Interior lining by one slot needs a restitch, shown.
