Frequently depicted in Western Art, the Peasant Girl often portrays their lives of rural labor, landscape, and the everyday life of the country woman.
The artwork reflects the central role of women.
Even if they are not shown as active participants in the trade, they are there on the sidelines cleaning the shop or weaving their threads. In fact, women were seen as so central to a successful business, that some European cities would not allow a single man to establish a shop!

This whimsical antique French spelter lamp, embodies the French Country life of the peasant girl.

A cast zinc-lead alloy, sometimes called “pot metal,” that was used to create detailed figurines and statues for lamps.
This exquisite antique spelter lamp is by J B Hirsch.
J.B. Hirsch acquired original molds from European artists, such as the French Artists of the Moreau brothers, whose designs were used to create these figural lamps.
She is unsigned, though believed to be a mold of the Moreau Brothers.
Painted in a blanc crémeux, a French creamy white, she is filled with ornate details, with a fluted gilt metal base.
Her shade is a custom harped Neoclassical rounded linen square, with taupe trimmings, and a brass ornamental finial.
Holds 1 bulb, and in excellent working condition.
In beautiful condition, typical and repairable minimal paint missing on backside, shown. Typical light patina on gilt base.
She is an outstanding statement piece of "Art In Light".
