Italianate Rococo Gilt Bronze Framed Art "A Young Girl Reading", by Jean-Honoré Fragonard
$65.00
Italianate Rococo Gilt Bronze Framed Art "A Young Girl Reading", by Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
An exquisitely framed Victorian Rococo Portrait print.
This magnificent piece was originally painted around circa 1770, by French Rococo master Jean-Hororé Fragonard, and presently housed at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
The Victorian Rococo subject depicts an unknown young woman, immersed in her book.
Giving Rococo's style of warmth and fluidity...the girl is captured wearing a vibrant yellow gown, with romantic white ruffle collar and cuffs. Her hair is tied with a loose bow ribbon.
Fascinating modern x-ray, revealed that Fragonard originally painted a completely different portrait underneath. The underlying layer depicted a woman facing forward, wearing an elaborate headdress and looking directly at the viewer, before Fragonard painted over it to create the profile reading scene.
Framed exquisitely in a gilt bronze and glass Italianate frame. The details are heavenly in this ornate frame...from the acanthus leaf atop and bottom, floral relief details within, to the heavy scrollwork throughout.
Perfection for the gallery wall, or anywhere Victorian Romance is desired. Lovely to easel, for tabletop decor.
In excellent condition.
Backside has hook for hanging.
